About the founder

Tim Phielix

Founder, Amsterdam Vintage Wine

I founded Amsterdam Vintage Wine from a simple frustration: mature wine is often the most interesting wine you can drink, but finding bottles with honest provenance at fair prices takes connections and time that most people don't have. I decided to do that work for others.

By day I work as a strategy consultant, helping companies make sense of complex data and turn it into decisions. By evening and most weekends, I search private cellars and established European auction houses for wines that meet a clear standard: properly stored, honestly described, and worth their price against the open market.

I don't run a physical shop. The investment goes instead into sourcing, controlled storage, and direct delivery. Every bottle I assess before listing — fill level, label condition, capsule, provenance documentation — and store under controlled temperature and humidity from arrival to shipment.

I also write about the fine wine market from a data perspective, tracking long-term price movements, compiling deep dives into regions and producers or write about wider market perspectives. My work draws on auction data, the Liv-ex index, and other open source data analyzed with the same tools I use professionally, applied to a subject I've studied since my early twenties.

Our approach

How we source

We source from cellars and auctions

Every bottle comes from private cellars and established European auction houses — not from a distributor's list. It is slower work, but it is the only way to find mature vintages that have been kept properly since release.

We check condition, honestly

Before a wine is listed we assess fill level, label and capsule, and trace provenance wherever the documentation allows. We share what we know rather than claiming a paper trail for every bottle.

We store it correctly

From the moment a bottle arrives until it ships, it is kept under controlled temperature and humidity. Heat and light age a wine faster than time alone, so proper storage is not optional.

We deliver across the Netherlands

No physical shop. We invest instead in sourcing, storage and careful direct-to-door service, so more people can enjoy these wines at a fair price.
