Château Léoville Las CasesChâteau Léoville Las Cases2008
Léoville Las Cases' Grand Vin comes from the Clos, a walled 55-hectare vineyard at the northern tip of Saint-Julien, separated from Château Latour by just a small stream. The 2008 was a cooler vintage that produced structured, classical claret: cassis, cedar and graphite, with firm tannins and a long mineral finish. This is a wine that needs time and rewards patience. Just entering its drinking window now, with decades of evolution ahead.

About This Producer
The original Léoville estate was one of the largest in the Médoc, owned by French noble families until the Revolution. When the domain was divided, the Las Cases family retained three-fifths, including the historic walled Clos at the northern tip of Saint-Julien. Wine merchant Théophile Skawinski acquired the estate around 1900, and it passed to the Delon family by inheritance. The 1971 vintage was selected for the famous 1976 Judgment of Paris tasting, competing with the top wines of Bordeaux and California. Jean-Hubert Delon now runs the estate with the same uncompromising standards his family established decades ago.
