Domaine Jean-Louis ChaveSaint-Joseph2021
The Chave family has been making wine in the Northern Rhône since 1481, making them one of France's oldest wine dynasties. Their Saint-Joseph comes from granite-based vineyards in the historic villages of Tournon, Mauves and St-Jean-de-Muzols. The 2021 is pure Syrah with dark fruit, graphite and ground pepper, medium-bodied with smooth tannins and the clean, granitic minerality that defines great Northern Rhône. Already approachable, but this will improve with time.

About This Producer
The Chave family has been making wine on the Hermitage hill since 1481, 16 generations in an unbroken line. Jean-Louis Chave took over from his father Gérard in 1992 and farms about 15 hectares across almost every major lieu-dit on the hill. There is no special cuvée or luxury bottling. The Chaves blend all their parcels into one red and one white Hermitage, a practice that reflects their view of Hermitage as one great wine, not a collection of vineyard names.
