Château Musar Château Musar Red 2006
Château Musar kept making wine through 15 years of Lebanese civil war. Serge Hochar, who ran the estate from 1959 until his death in 2014, was named Decanter's first-ever Man of the Year in 1984 for that effort. The wine is a roughly equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan from the Bekaa Valley at 1,000m altitude, aged up to 7 years before release. The 2006 shows spiced dried fruit, leather and earth, with the rustic, savoury character that makes Musar unlike anything else. Will continue to develop for decades.

About This Producer
Founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar, who planted Musar’s first vineyards after returning from Bordeaux. His son Serge Hochar became winemaker in 1959, honing the house style under mentorship from Bordeaux oenologists like Émile Peynaud. Musar gained international fame when the 1967 vintage was “discovered” by Michael Broadbent at the 1979 Bristol Wine Fair, where it was lauded as the find of the event. Throughout Lebanon’s 1975–1990 civil war, Serge kept Musar in operation – an effort recognized in 1984 when Decanter named him its first ever ‘Man of the Year’ for his unwavering dedication. After Serge’s passing in 2014, the third generation (led by his sons Gaston and Marc) continues to steward Chateau Musar, upholding its tradition of natural winemaking and authenticity
