Aldo ConternoBarolo 'Cicala'2000
Cicala is Aldo Conterno's 6-acre single-vineyard Barolo from the Bussia zone in Monforte d'Alba, planted on clay-rich soils with 50-year-old vines. The 2000 vintage is now 25 years old and fully evolved: dried rose, truffle, leather and sweet tobacco on the nose, silky tannins and a long, savoury finish on the palate. This is mature Nebbiolo at its most complete. Drink now while it's in its window.

About This Producer
The Conterno family has been making wine since the 19th century, bottling their first Barolo Riserva in the 1920s. After military service in Korea, Aldo returned to the family estate in 1961 when his father Giacomo handed it to his sons. In 1969, disagreements with brother Giovanni led Aldo to buy the Favot farm in Bussia and establish Poderi Aldo Conterno. The first commercial Gran Bussia was the 1971 vintage. Aldo passed in 2012; sons Franco, Stefano and Giacomo now run the 25-hectare estate.
