Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve2007
Flaccianello was first made in 1981 by a 20-year-old Giovanni Manetti, and it helped define the Super Tuscan movement. Unlike many Super Tuscans, it's 100% Sangiovese from Fontodi's vineyards in the Conca d'Oro amphitheater of Panzano, organically farmed since 1990. The 2007 is bold and ripe (a warm vintage), with concentrated red berry fruit, leather and warm spice, polished tannins and a long finish. Mature and drinking in a beautiful spot now.

About This Producer
The Manetti family (famous for their terracotta business) bought the rundown Fontodi estate in 1968 in Panzano's Conca d'Oro, a natural south-facing amphitheater considered the best terroir in Chianti Classico. Giovanni Manetti took charge in 1979 and produced the first Flaccianello at age 20 in 1981, a 100% Sangiovese that helped define the Super Tuscan category. The estate has been organically farmed since 1990 and certified since 2008.
