Tuscany

Tuscany is Sangiovese country. From the hills of Montalcino and Chianti, the grape gives bright, savoury reds with sour-cherry fruit, firm acidity and a herbal, earthy edge.

Our selection spans Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino alongside the Sangiovese-led 'Super Tuscan' style.

What to look for

  • Brunello di Montalcino is 100% Sangiovese, aged for years before release and built to last; Rosso di Montalcino is its younger, more immediate sibling.
  • Super Tuscans such as Flaccianello showcase Sangiovese (sometimes with Bordeaux varieties) outside the traditional rules.
  • Sangiovese's acidity makes it one of the great food wines.

Vintage notes

2012 & 2010

2020

Frequently asked questions

What grape is Brunello?

Brunello di Montalcino is made entirely from Sangiovese (locally called Brunello). It must be aged for several years before release, which is part of why it ages so well.

What is a Super Tuscan?

A term for high-quality Tuscan reds that fell outside traditional appellation rules — often Sangiovese blended with, or replaced by, Bordeaux varieties. Flaccianello is a Sangiovese example.

Brunello or Rosso di Montalcino?

Same grape and area, different ageing. Rosso is released younger and drinks earlier; Brunello is aged longer and built for the cellar.
