Ciacci Picolomini D'AragonaBrunello di Montalcino 'Pianrosso'2012
Pianrosso is Ciacci Piccolomini's top single-vineyard Brunello, sourced from high-elevation rocky plots in the Castelnuovo dell'Abate zone. The 2012 vintage was warm and generous in Montalcino, and this wine shows it: ripe cherry and plum with tobacco and dried herb, full-bodied but with enough acidity to keep everything moving. The tannins have softened nicely after a decade, and there's a subtle earthiness on the finish. Drinking well now, though it will hold for a few more years.

About This Producer
The estate dates to the 17th century and a palazzo built by the Bishop of Montalcino. When Countess Elda Ciacci died without heirs in 1985, she unexpectedly left the entire property to Giuseppe Bianchini, her estate manager. Giuseppe transformed what had been a local farm into an internationally recognised Brunello producer. His children Paolo and Lucia now run the estate, farming 40 hectares organically in the Castelnuovo dell'Abate zone.
