Domaine Duroché
Est. 1906
About the Estate
Duroché is one of the most exciting domaines in Gevrey-Chambertin right now, a fifth-generation family estate that was quietly excellent for decades before Pierre Duroché transformed it into a critical darling. The family established the domaine in 1906. The first bottling under their own label was in 1933, from an old cellar near the village church. In 1955, third-generation vigneron Philippe Duroché moved to a new location and acquired a parcel in the grand cru Clos de Bèze. Pierre Duroché joined his father Gilles in 2003 and took full control in 2005. Since then he has eliminated herbicides, reintroduced horse ploughing on sensitive parcels, and stopped selling fruit to négociants, vinifying everything in-house. The estate now encompasses portions of four grand cru vineyards: Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze, Charmes-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin and Lavaux Saint-Jacques premier cru.

Terroir
All 8.5 hectares lie within Gevrey-Chambertin, spanning village-level through to grand cru. The estate holds parcels in Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze, Charmes-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin and Lavaux Saint-Jacques premier cru. Pierre Duroché's approach emphasises low yields, minimal new oak and respect for each climat's character. The wines show the purity of fruit and stony minerality that Gevrey does best.
